Self Defense

Situational Awareness

We teach about situational awareness, the ability to understand and respond to a situation by perceiving, analyzing, and using information to make decisions. It’s important to be aware of your surroundings in everyday life to completely avoid dangerous situations.

Your voice can be your greatest weapon. Yelling can startle an attacker making them back off. It can also draw attention of others, increasing the likelihood of someone coming to help.

Our physical self-defense curriculum helps build muscle memory. Through our one-steps and grabbing defense we are building muscle memory so if ever in a  difficult situation your body will respond automatically, keeping you safe.

One-Steps and Grabbing Defense

One-steps begin with both martial artists facing each other about 3 to 5 feet apart. One person will be the attacker and the other will be the defender. The attacker must always make certain that the defender is ready. These are at a medium range distance.

Grabbing defense is practiced at close range. It is when your partner attacks with a grab. They will grab wrists, grab from behind and attack from the ground. The student practices how do defend or break out of these attacks.

There are different self-defense moves to learn each belt level, incorporating all other parts of the curriculum as well. And learning doesn’t stop when you reach black belt, the techniques just become more advanced.

Parents will gain reassurance that their child will learn to be safe and protect themselves and others. If you are interested in learning more you can check out our schedule.
