About Our Martial Arts Academy

The Best Martial Arts In Mt Airy

What Makes HiYa Karate Different?

At HiYa Karate, we believe martial arts is about more than learning how to kick, block, or strike. Our philosophy is “Train for Life!” because the skills and lessons developed through martial arts can positively impact students both inside and outside the school.

Our training is rooted in Tang Soo Do and combines traditional martial arts techniques with physical fitness, self-defense, and personal development. Students learn foundational skills such as stances, blocks, strikes, kicks, and forms while improving coordination, balance, strength, focus, and confidence.

Families from Mt Airy, Damascus, New Market, Woodbine, and other nearby communities choose HiYa Karate for martial arts training that focuses on developing the whole student through physical skills, character development, and valuable life lessons.

Character development is an important part of the HiYa Karate experience. Our principles and HiYa Creed encourage students to practice respect, dedication, honor, integrity, and perseverance. These values are reinforced throughout training to help students become more confident and responsible in everyday life.

As students progress, they can experience additional challenges through self-defense training, controlled sparring, board breaking, and competition. Each part of our program is designed to help students continue developing their skills while learning the importance of focus, control, and consistent effort.

At HiYa Karate, our goal is to help every student become stronger physically and mentally while developing skills and values they can carry with them for life.

Community Service

As part of the HiYa Karate curriculum, each student must complete several community service hours to obtain their black belt. We believe it is important to give back to the greater community, as well as the martial arts community.

Community service ranges from volunteering at school, making blankets for babies at a hospital to helping an elderly neighbor rake their leaves. They always find it just as rewarding as earning their belts.

We not only give back to our greater community, but the martial arts community as well. The students also must volunteer to teach for a certain number of hours to earn their black belt. You can also find them helping other students at different dojos or at tournaments as well.

When our local foodbank posted a message about needing donations, HiYa Karate became a drop off location and was able to help fill up the shelves with supplies.
As a studio, each year HiYa Karate has a Giving Tree to donate gifts and everyday things needed for families in need.

All students and families always step up to help!
