HiYa! Karate Cobras (Ages 7-10) Program

The Cobra Represents Speed

Our HiYa Karate Cobra program is designed for children ages 7-10. This is the age of influence and persuasion, and our karate lessons are designed specifically for this dynamic group. We believe our program will strengthen your child’s ability to make SMART CHOICES in life! The Cobra Program starts students on their journey to becoming a black belt! The goals of our program are to:

Improve your child’s school performance through practiced attention skills
Build individual confidence using group performance
Perpetuate discipline and respect
Improve motor and sensory skills
Practice Self-Defense in the form of one-steps and grabbing defense
Learn Sparring techniques
Develop Tang Soo Do martial arts skills
Increase fitness

Students can enter the program at any age because the curriculum sets children up for success. Our encouraging environment promotes self-growth while also providing a team atmosphere.

Classes are offered on various day and times of the week in order to accommodate dual-athlete students, and students that are involved in multiple activities. We also have separate classes that focus on just beginners, intermediate, and advanced groups for more personalized attention.

Mondays: 5:30 – 6:15 pm (white – purple belts)
Tuesdays: 6:15 – 7:00 pm (All belts)
Wednesdays: 6:15 – 7:00 pm (green – poom belts)
Thursdays: 5:00 – 5:45 pm (curriculum – white – orange belts)
Thursdays: 5:45 – 6:30 pm (sparring, yellow belt +)
Saturdays: 10:45 – 11:45 am

We offer two program types. Students can attend classes two-times per week or sign up for unlimited classes per week.

Our son has been with HiYa Karate for over 2 years now. We love Hiya because they take a personal interest in each child at their studio and make you a part of their family. Ms. Susie and Mr. Ian have done a wonderful job of helping our son achieve his goals and set new ones for himself. I was truly impressed the year my son participated in the Junior Olympics with HiYa. HiYa Karate's Aware Kids Safe & Defense Program was absolutely amazing! The program encompassed personal safety, how to identify and respond to threatening situations, basic lifesaving self-defense moves, fire safety, and poison control. The material presented to the children was not used to scare them, but to teach, empower and make them aware of their surroundings. The guest speakers from the Mount Airy Fire Department and Montgomery County Police Department provided age-appropriate teachings and memorable hands-on experiences. As a parent, I was extremely impressed with the quality and content of this program and I even learned new information. I’ve referred to this program multiple times this summer as teaching moments with my son. My son takes a class at HiYa and I love watching him. The instructors know the children well and tailor the lessons to meet the needs of each child in the class. My 14 year old son has been doing martial arts for many years. He often competed in tournaments at the local, state and national level. Early in his martial arts journey he hated sparring and flat out refused to do it. In 2017 he took gold at the AAU National Tae Kwon Do tournament in sparring. We are so thankful to the instructors for knowing when to push him and help him achieve his goal. He learned to focus on the end result, work hard for it, move outside his comfort zone, and persist even when you don't reach the desired outcome.
